ZapWorks Game Development

ZapWorks Studio

This is the easiest software for creating virtual, augmented and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR) experiences! The experiences launch with a ZapWorks or QR code. Anyone who downloads the free Zappar App and has the code can view and interact with the experience.

If you want to create your own VR/AR/MR experiences, you can purchase the developer software. Anyone with a little bit of programming experience can use the excellent video tutorials to learn this software. It’s surprising how much success you can have the first time you use it!

This semester, I’m leading a group of college students to design an interactive augmented reality game that can be launched from my soon to be published book for middle grades, “The Kitten and the Robot.”

If you are considering a project like this or just want to see how it goes, follow me and join in the conversation. Your comments can help in the creative process!

Augmented Reality Book: The Kitten and the Robot

The Kitten and the Robot Book Cover

Would you like to follow the progression of a very unique book? Take a look under the goggles of how we are creating a very unique children’s book. Disclaimer: most of what I post here will be in draft format. I’ll guide you through some of the tips I’ve learned about authoring a book, leading a virtual internship and authoring an Augmented Reality (AR) book! Subscribe if you want to join me on this journey. Contact me (here) if you want to join the Beta Readers team to support this effort.

The Kitten and the Robot is about an adopted kitten who learns to use a robot and work with a team of animals to make repairs after Hurricane Michael. Check back next week to read the Preface and find out why I decided to write a children’s book.

FIRST LEGO League Regional Championship

Our region was very fortunate to have the University of West Florida (UWF) step forward when Hurricane Michael damaged the venue for the Florida – Northwest FIRST LEGO League Regional Championship originally scheduled at Gulf Coast State College.

UWF’s Field House venue was amazing and the students performed out of this world (or you could say “Into Orbit“)! Congratulations to the Okaloosa STEMM Academy (OSA) for winning 2 of the 7 slots for our region to attend the State Championship. The STEMM Stingers and the STEMM SWARM teams will both be headed to Boca Raton in April. The Stingers, OSA’s veteran team, ranked 2nd in the region and will also be competing at the Razorback Invitational in Arkansas!

A big thank you to David Johnson with the Okaloosa School District for emceeing the tournament. Doolittle Institute brought in a great group of volunteers once again to set-up, judge and referee the tournament.
